Staying Safe online

BE CYBER AWARE

Crown continuously works with social media and technology companies to seek removal of fraudulent content as a priority.

In Australia, it is illegal to operate an online casino or to provide casino-style games online. Crown does not operate an online casino or provide online gambling in any form.

Crown encourages its community to remain vigilant against imposter and fraudulent social media accounts, advertisements or apps using Crown’s name, logo, photos and other identifying information.

Fraudulent accounts may request money, personal information, send links for phishing scams, advertise false services, or post fake giveaways and prizes. Please do not engage with any fraudulent accounts and do not provide your personal information or credit card details.

Identifying scams

WHAT DO SCAMS LOOK LIKE?

Scams can take a number of forms, but here are the most common ones.

Requesting money & personal information

Fake websites and online forums can scam people by pretending to offer legitimate giveaways or prizes. These platforms mimic real companies or communities to gain trust. They trick users into sharing personal information or paying fees to claim prizes that don't exist. You should be cautious, verify the legitimacy of such offers, and avoid sharing sensitive information online.

If you're unsure about the legitimacy of a website, visit the Australian Cyber Security Centre to help understand the risks and steps to stay safe online.

Fake emails & phishing scams

Emails and phishing links scam people by impersonating trustworthy sources. They often contain urgent or enticing messages, prompting recipients to click on links or download attachments. These links lead to fake websites designed to steal personal information like login credentials or credit card details. Phishing links can also install malware on devices, compromising security. It's crucial to verify email sources, avoid clicking on suspicious links, and never share sensitive information unless certain of the sender's legitimacy.

Fake social media accounts & advertisements

Scammers trick people with fake giveaways to gain personal information or money. They offer tempting prizes, ask for details or payments, and use fake winners and urgency to pressure victims. They aim to steal data for money or identity theft, often through harmful links or emails. Victims usually get nothing, so it's important to be careful and not share personal info online. Below are some example of what this can look like:
