and how the humble Western Australian potato is at the heart of it all
When you think of Crown Perth, you might picture luxe hotel stays, iconic theatre shows or sipping cocktails in chic lounges. But behind the glamorous scenes lies an economic powerhouse helping drive Western Australia’s prosperity.
From the thousands of careers it supports to the millions it channels through local businesses, Crown Perth plays a vital role in WA’s economy.
Each year, Crown Perth contributes a staggering $1.2 billion to WA’s economy, supporting everything from tourism and hospitality to farming and logistics. Across the country, that impact scales up to $4.8 billion, representing a significant 8 per cent of Australia’s total tourism activity.
Crown’s economic impact extends across industries and into communities, generating jobs, creating partnerships, and sustaining small businesses throughout WA. It’s not just what happens within the walls of Crown Perth that matters, it’s the ripple effect that extends far beyond them.

Supporting local
Crown Perth’s operations depend on a complex and interconnected supply chain. Every show staged, meal served, or guest stay requires the input of hundreds of businesses, each playing their part to deliver an exceptional experience. From food and beverage producers to linen providers and tradespeople, Crown’s supplier network is vast, diverse and overwhelmingly local.
In WA alone, Crown Perth spends around $169 million annually with 662 suppliers, many of them small or family-run. Guests staying at Crown Perth inject an additional $200 million into local businesses.
Nationally, 83 per cent of Crown’s 3,900 suppliers are classified as small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), proof that Crown is lifting up thousands of Australian businesses, every day.

A local legend: the journey of the humble spud
Just south of Perth in Myalup, Beta Spuds has been producing premium WA potatoes for over 30 years. CEO Michael Cocciolone is passionate about both produce and people, and the role Crown plays in sustaining both.
"Beta Spuds was started in 1994 by my father, Carlo," Mr Cocciolone explained.
"He began with small-scale production and built the business up through years of hard work and dedication to the industry."
Today, the company processes around 32,000 tonnes of potatoes each year, supplying everyone from major supermarkets to local wholesalers, and Crown Perth.
For Sarah Vitsas, Director at Morley Growers Market, it’s a relationship that goes beyond business.
"Having something as big as Crown, one of Perth’s largest hospitality venues, support us means we can support local growers and local farmers," Ms Vitsas said.
"Their focus on local produce helps keep communities alive."
Mr Cocciolone said he experiences a real sense of satisfaction seeing WA-grown produce featured in Crown’s restaurants.
“Knowing that you’ve grown and coordinated the products over 12 months, to service all the restaurants in the Crown facility, that consumers will be enjoying on their plates throughout the year,” he said.
“It’s always satisfying to see the end results when you go to Crown as a customer.”
And at the other end of the journey is Crown Perth’s Executive Chef Sean Marco, who sees firsthand how local produce elevates the guest experience.
"You feel the passion and the pride they have, just growing a humble potato," Mr Marco said.
"It mirrors our passion as chefs. We're committed to delivering fresh, high-quality cuisine, and that starts with ingredients grown right here in WA."

Paying it forward
Crown Perth doesn’t just boost business; it contributes directly to vital public services too. As a major taxpayer, the venue contributes heavily to WA’s ability to deliver essential services. In the past year alone, Crown Perth paid $140 million in tax contributions, helping to fund public health, education, infrastructure, and emergency services.
Creating opportunities and careers
Crown Perth is also one of WA’s largest private employers, supporting thousands of jobs across hospitality, security, events, logistics, administration and more. And for many, a role at Crown is just the beginning of a long and fulfilling career.
Crown invests heavily in workforce development. Its commitment to career progression ensures local talent can grow within the business, building skills that strengthen WA’s future economy.
A foundation for the future
Through initiatives that prioritise local procurement, career development, and sustainable tourism, Crown Perth is helping build a stronger Western Australia.
